The Rapping professor

Travels from Shanghai

For the "Rapping professor" the key components in his speeches are humor and music. Both are particularly effective at breaking the ice with an audience, and also at getting them involved interactively. For humor, the professor might relate a funny anecdote or have the audience pair up and practice a funny dialogue. In a rap activity (for a speech, teambuilding and other uses) where the professor divides the audience into small groups, has them choose a rap name, supplies them with the framework of a simple rap, has them fill in some blanks, and then puts on their own little rap show, complete with background beat.

Being careful not to offend, he also can throw in many regional and national accents of spoken English, in addition to peppering my speeches with tidbits from Chinese, French and Indonesian languages when appropriate.
With his years of experience as language instructor and multicultural trainer working with many different kinds of people, the rapping professor possess good instincts as to the proper pace and delivery best suited for various audiences. While humor is sometimes very cultural-dependent, the rapping professor can make a Chinese audience laugh when addressing them in Chinese.

Matthew Bloomfield recently performed for the Ford Christmas party in Shanghai, the British Council in Shanghai, "Networking for Success" in Bangkok, and International Language Educators Conference (ILEC) in Hong Kong and at many other opportunities.
