Mark Greeven

Mark J. Greeven is a Chinese-speaking Dutch academic, author and speaker based in China with a ringside seat on fast-evolving developments in Chinese management and innovation. As a Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship he lectures at Zhejiang University, Rotterdam School of Management, Duke University, European School of Management and Technology, ECNU, Emlyon business school, Technical University Berlin. For over a decade he has been collaborating with Chinese innovative companies and entrepreneurial multinationals. He is on the 2017 Thinkers50 Radar list of 30 next generation business gurus.

He travels from Hangzhou, China.

His key themes are how and what we can learn from the novel ways of organizing business by Chinese IT companies, digital business ecosystems, China’s innovation imperative (speed, scale and disruption) and China’s hidden innovators (change makers, hidden champions and underdog tech ventures, for instance, NIO and Malong.

Before moving to China, he worked as faculty at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He is selected on the 2017 Thinkers50 Radar list of 30 next generation business gurus.

Since 2004, he has been collaborating closely with hundreds of Chinese and foreign startups and advising Fortune 500 MNCs in China and Europe. He has focused on innovation & entrepreneurship, cross-cultural management and global R&D in, to and from China.

Findings of his research are published in international academic journals and newspapers like The Financial Times, Nikkei Asian Review, The Telegraph, South China Morning Post and China Daily. He published his book Business Ecosystems in China: Alibaba and Competing Baidu, Tencent, Xiaomi and LeEco (Routledge, 2017) and his second book ‘Chinese hidden innovators: from Alibaba to Zongmu’ is expected early 2019.
