Dr. Zhu Shen is an award-winning business leader, prolific author, and media personality. She is the CEO of BioForesight, a strategic consulting company providing licensing, partnering, investment advisory, outsourcing advisory, cross-cultural communication & negotiation training, and media/public relations services to clients in North America, Europe, and China. She was Vice President of Business Development at ItherX Pharmaceuticals (formerly Immusol) in San Diego. Her responsibilities include leading ItherX’s licensing, partnering, and corporate communication. She also held positions at The Wilkerson Group/ IBM, Bayer, and Chiron, with increasing responsibilities in marketing, strategic planning, and business development.
Dr. Shen is a widely recognized thought leader in US/China business. She is an organizer, speaker, and chair of numerous life science business conferences on licensing, venture investing, and cross-Pacific partnering/CRO trends. She has authored a number of feature articles on cross-Pacific life science trends in financing, outsourcing, and licensing, published on Pharmaceutical Executive, PharmAsia News, Ernst & Young Global Pharmaceutical Reports, and BioExecutive International. She has been featured on Business Week, Fox News, Los Angeles Times, Pharmaceutical Executive, China Economic Review, Genetic Engineering News, Drug Discovery News, Cornell Enterprise, San Diego Union Tribune, San Diego Business Journal, Voice of San Diego, The Daily Transcript, Asia Talk Radio, and ASIA Media.
Dr. Shen sits on the Editorial Advisory Board of PharmAsia News, an online media owned by F-D-C Reports, Inc. and Elsevier, with news and analysis covering Rx drugs, biologics, devices and diagnostics in the Pacific Rim. She serves on the Board of Directors and chairs the Pacific Alliance & Entrepreneurship Committee of Sino-American Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Professionals Association (SABPA), the largest and most influential Chinese American life science professional organization in Southern California. She also serves on the BIOCOM Asia Task Force Steering Committee, the Athena San Diego Bioscience Committee and CFO Committee.
Dr. Shen is involved in various non-profit and charitable organizations. She is the Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of the America Chinese Culture & Education Foundation (ACCEF), a San Diego-based charity organization that raises funds to build new elementary schools for under-privileged children in China. She is also on the board of directors of Asian Art Coordinating Council.
Dr. Shen has mentored scores of MBA students, Ph.D. students, post-docs, and young professionals in life science and technology industries, frequently speaking at the UCSD Rady School of management, UCSD Career Development Programs, The Burnham Institute, and at SABPA events on career development, successful networking, and leadership.
Dr. Shen was honored with the Annual Asian Heritage Award in 2006 and the SABPA Achievement Award in 2006 and 2007. She was also nominated for the annual Athena Pinnacle Award in 2007 and 2008, and the San Diego Business Journal’s “Women Who Mean Business Award” in 2008.
Dr. Shen received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado, where she won an award for “Outstanding Research”. She earned her MBA from the Johnson School at Cornell University where she was cofounder and treasurer of the Biotech Club. She attended Peking University and Peking Union Medical College in China.
Her personal hobbies include public speaking, creative writing, reading, drawing, classical music, jazz, fine art and art collection, gardening, and playing the piano.
