Michael Justin Lee started in October 2013 as columnist at the Washington Times.
Michael Justin Lee was born in Hong Kong and raised in New York City’s Chinatown. Previously Professorial Lecturer at Georgetown University and Practitioner Instructor at Johns Hopkins University, he is currently with the Center for East Studies at the University of Maryland and teaches in its department of finance. He is also a past University Senator and recipient of one of the Robert H. Smith School of Business’ highest teaching honors.
Professor Lee received his undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies at Brown University and his graduate education at Andover-Newton Theological School and New York University, completing an MBA in finance with Beta Gamma Sigma honors from the latter institution.
A veteran Chartered Financial Analyst and examination grader for the CFA Institute, he was appointed to serve in the administration of United States Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao as Financial Markets Expert-in-Residence from 2003 to 2005. Prior to entering Federal service, he was an institutional investor with extensive professional experience in China and the Far East.
He has been an expert reviewer for “Applied Corporate Finance” by Aswath Damodaran (John Wiley, 2010) and “Essentials of Investments” by Bodie, Kane and Marcus (McGraw-Hill, 2012). His OpEd articles have appeared in the Baltimore Sun, the Washington Times and the Christian Science Monitor and he has been interviewed for Bloomberg TV, Reuters News Service, Forbes.com, CBS Marketwatch and New England Cable News. He has been an expert source for Business Wire news service and was a designated “media expert” while with John Hancock Financial Services.
