Zhang Lijia, author of the forthcoming book on prostitution in China, Lotus: A Novel, will attend the conference China – secret stories, on January 22 in Maastricht, as the main speaker from mainland China.

China, Secret Stories is part of (Un)seen worlds, a series of Story-Line events. We bring Storytellers on Stage who are from and talk about countries with remarkable stories but limited freedom of speech. It will be a Sunday afternoon filled with moving and enlightening stories, interviews, discussion and film.

Zhang Lijia took the story of her grandmother as a concubine as a starting point for her in-depth research into prostitution in China. The story about her research and more background about prostitution in China will be available later in 2017 as videos on this website and at our YouTube Channel.
